Welcome to 2025 on the Writer's Balcony!
A few semi-resolutions, my writing schedule, travel schedule, and a new pen name...
Happy New Year! I hope you all have a lovely holiday season, and that you’re feeling at least somewhat optimistic about the coming year. I admit, I’m feeling that in some ways and very much not feeling it in others… but the optimism part mostly comes from my plans for writing and creating for the year, so that’s good news, at least!
I’m not sure I have clear “resolutions” in the usual sense––meaning a list of things I’m writing down and specific goals––but I definitely have thoughts around how to maintain my mental and creative health for the year, and those things are foremost in my mind and priorities right now.
The short version: I plan to spend more time in nature, more time writing outside at coffee shops and connecting with people in real life, more time doing yoga and meditating and making sure I’m not getting so anxious that I can’t write the things I want to write. I’ve let some of my healthier routines slide in the past year (especially meditation and yoga), and I’m determined to do better this year, as I sense I’ll need the additional mental calm and stability to navigate what I believe is likely to be an increasingly chaotic world.
Part of my moving my newsletter and “Patreon-type” work onto here was to simplify my online presence so I could free up more time for these real life things, and other creative pursuits I want to work on more in 2025… including audiobooks! I plan to record my first few chapters this weekend so I can begin posting a chapter a week starting next week. Those will be behind a paywall, and will likely be rough at first, but I hope everyone enjoys them. :)
As for my publication schedule, I made this graphic to map out the basic view (from left to right):
The Bones and Shadows books will be a new dark fantasy academy / romantasy series I’m launching this year under a pen name, Jules D’Or. That will begin with Malcroix Bones Academy (Shadow and Bones: Book #1). The Time Detective series is a brand new JC Andrijeski series I also plan to launch this year, and will start with Time’s Magic (The Time Detective #1).
Both series will begin after I put out a new novel in each of my current series. I plan to be working on all new stuff by the end of the year, under two different names, likely alternating between series.
A few more things to note: the Vampire Detective Midnight book I’ll be writing and releasing this Spring, Almost Midnight, will be the last book in that series. I’ll likely continue to put out (at least!) a book a year in Quentin Black Mystery and Angels in L.A. for a few more years, and I’ll be continuing Seer Wars with a Season 03, but likely not until the beginning of 2026.
So that’s the plan so far!
I’m working on a few of these already. Some books are partly written (or all the way written and just need major editing, like the remaining Seer Wars books in Season 02), and some I just have extensive notes for, like Malcroix Bones Academy.
I have some travel planned in 2025, too, but all of my big trips will be “writing travel” this year––meaning, unlike last year, where most of my trips were with family, this year I’ll be traveling alone, and should be able to get a lot of writing work done as a result.
My first trip will be to Mexico in February for seven days. I’m also (tentatively) planning a trip to Japan in May, although that one is still very much up in the air.
I’d really like to make at least one appearance at a writing or signing conference this year, too, but I don’t have anything on the books as of yet. I’ll let people know if it looks like that’s going to happen.
And that’s pretty much it for me right now… the high level, at least! I hope the writing schedule works for everyone, and at least has one of your “wish list” items on it, and hopefully more than one.
One final note about 2025: I’m obviously not keeping the pen name a secret, so I’ll be letting people know about releases under that name on here, although I will have a separate website and POSSIBLY a separate social media presence for those books––I’m going to wait and see how things develop first. Since it won’t be a secret, and keeping it separate from my JC Andrijeski work is more about branding and algorithms, I may continue to use this as my primary place for news and updates and just send out separate emails for JC Andrijeski and Jules D’Or books, with only brief mentions in the other ones for those who like both.
I hope this works for everyone!
FINAL NOTE: Below I have my latest release, a Bookfunnel sale for this week, and a new thing I’m launching, a monthly FREE BOOK I’ll be featuring from a peer author. I hope you enjoy them all!
Until next week… happy reading! And I hope you all have a very happy, peaceful, love and friendship-filled, enjoyable, and inspiring 2025! 🎉🎊🍾🥳

For the first time in weeks, months… longer than I could remember, really… I knew exactly where I was. I knew exactly who I was.
I knew who I’d been.
River starts to remember her old self and her old life. She recognizes Valek––sort of, although she has no memory of their marriage. She remembers enough to know her house in Pacific Palisades isn’t right, and the story her friends told her about what happened to her isn’t right, either.
She comes back to herself entirely in the end, but definitely not the same. She’s more changed than her half-bonded and emotionally volatile husband, Valek, can deal with at first. The details of how she came back, and what she did the night before, definitely don’t help.
In an attempt to learn more about her past, and what The Eye did to her as a child, Valek travels to Eureka, California, with Dante, the young organics expert. The two of them question people from River’s past, and run into trouble along the way. Meanwhile Jon and Wreg come to grips with this “new” River face to face… only to find she increasingly thinks and acts disturbingly like the person they knew during the last apocalyptic war.
The problem is, that person’s technically been dead for over two thousand years.
* * *Author’s Note: This series was written originally as a serial, and individual books end on cliffhangers as a result, with the longer arcs continuing over several books. This particular novel is a continuation of Seer Wars Season Two: A New Enemy, and follows Part 2 of the same season. Thanks so much for reading!
SEER WARS is an epic, romantic, gritty science fantasy series that started off as a serial and now is being released as a series of novels. Abandoned in Los Angeles as a weapon for a future inter-dimensional war, River Cleopatra Jones never knew her true identity until she got abducted by seer, ex-soldier, and pirate, Valek Targen. But Valek has his own dark secrets, and a much deeper connection to River and her purpose than either of them know. Apocalyptic science fiction, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slow-burn science fantasy with romance for people who like complex, character-driven sci-fi with a strong romantic subplot.

FREE BOOK OF THE MONTH!
As a special treat in 2025, I’m going to be featuring a free book every month for the next twelve months, from an author friend. Here is this month’s free book!
Jesi never wanted a power, but now it might be the coven’s best chance to locate the kidnapped children.
With kids from the coven disappearing, Jesi’s power to see anyone’s past with a touch puts her on the front lines and in the path of a man immune to her power. Trusting her gut, she agrees to work with him.
Chuck’s attempts to solve his current case are fruitless until a beautiful woman walks into his precinct. Now he’s knee deep in magic and wondering if he’s lost his mind, but he can’t walk away when the case turns personal.
Will Chuck be able to accept the supernatural? Will Jesi learn to control her magic in time to find the children? Will their attraction to one another distract them from the case?
Two worlds collide in this thrilling new novel full of secrets, magic, and a romance that will leave you wanting more!
**18+ This novel contains sex and profanity.
Thanks so much for reading! I appreciate you all so much! :)
