Kickstarter Launch Date! (FINAL)
A slightly revised launch date for my special editions Kickstarter, plus some New York City Photos
Greetings, Writing Balcony friends!
I wanted to let everyone know - I’ve decided to push my Kickstarter date slightly, just by a few weeks. I was originally going to launch it this week, but given my trip to New York City, and everything else going on (I’ve now got a cold, on top of everything else), I thought I’d give myself a little bit of cushioning / breathing room and start it the very first week of February, instead.
That should give me plenty of time to update all of my placeholders, even with the Seer Wars book I’m planning to release this week, and hopefully will give my artists a tiny bit of breathing room, too!
So my launch date for the Kickstarter is now February 2nd, 2026.

This will have the added bonus of my (hopefully!) having hardcover proofs for two of the editions, the Art Deco and Gothic hardcovers, in my hot little hands!
They won’t be finals, of course. For one thing, I found out the printer isn’t able to do the silver or gold foiling for the proof versions, so that will make them different right there. Also, some of the artwork inside consisted of placeholders as I’m still waiting for the finals to get done on a number of them. That doesn’t even get into any possible stretch goals that might be reached by the campaign, which will (hopefully!) bling out the special editions even more.
But the proofs should give people some idea of what the hardcovers will look like. If I get them in time, I’ll make a few videos to show off the rough-rough-rough versions.
I’m also updating all of the promo stuff now that I have a better idea of what the special editions will look like, as well, and much, much more of the artwork, as well as the map.
Speaking of which, I can’t wait to show off all of the gorgeous art I’ve commissioned by an amazing collection of (human) artists! I made that graphic above to give people a snapshot of what they’ll find in the first two books, in addition to the art pack for the campaign, but that’s not all of it by any stretch.
I’ll have a tier for only the art pack, by the way, since there’s a lot of it. That pack will include prints, stickers, postcards, etc., and will also be included with all of the hardcover edition tiers. I can’t wait to see the prints - I’m absolutely in love with what these artists have done for me, not to mention the artists who designed the covers, but so far I’ve only seen the electronic versions. 😍🔥
More on this soon, for now I mostly wanted people to be aware of the date change!
The other thing I wanted to share with everyone was a few photos from my recent trip to New York City.
I had a really fabulous time there, visiting old friends I hadn’t seen in the flesh in over twenty years. I’d never seen them in NYC, as we were actually friends when we all lived in San Francisco, not long after I got out of grad school (which I attended in NYC, funnily enough). There’s now a very good chance I’m going back to see them again in May, since we all decided that twenty years is ridiculously too long to go without seeing one another in the flesh, and those few days I was just there went really fast and definitely didn’t feel like long enough.
For now, though, a glimpse of my trip… I decided to do a collage just because it made it easier than trying to pick out just 2-3 photos.
I was only really there for three days (3.5, really, as the last day I had to leave to go to the airport at noon), but it was a jam-packed three days! I left Sunday night, arrived Monday morning, and left Thursday to get back to San Jose at something like ten p.m.
In between, I went to Central Park, the MOMA, the Met, and saw two plays. I also wandered around the Upper Westside with my buddy and her dog, Griffin, and then alone for one day, where I went into the NY Public Library, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Bryant Park, and the Flatiron Building (which was mostly under scaffolding, otherwise I’d include a photo since it’s still one of my favs).
It was strange to be in NYC with little or no agenda other than to see my friends, and to catch a play, and hopefully hit a museum. I didn’t fully realize until I got there that it was the first time I’d done that since I actually lived in NYC. Every other time I’ve gone back, it’s been for a conference or something work-related, and I haven’t really done the touristy-arty things.
That’s another reason I’m looking forward to returning in May. I didn’t have time to do or see even a fraction of the places I wanted to visit (or revisit, in most cases). High on that list are the Cloisters, the Village, the U.N. Building (I’m a nerd), and definitely more time spent at both the Met and the MOMA, not to mention hitting the galleries in the East Village and SOHO. I’d also like to see more live performances, especially of the off-Broadway variety.
I don’t know if I’ll get to all of that in the 13 or so days I have planned for my next trip, but I’ll definitely feel less crazed than I did trying to cram that into three days while thoroughly jet-lagged.
Until then, though, I’m nursing a cold (probably from the plane - I seem to get sick every time I step foot on a plane these days, so much so, I quarantine for a few days after every trip now).
Partly due to the cold, I spent today working on Kickstarter things with Veronica Mars playing in the background, since I wasn’t able to nap like I wanted. :)
Anyway, more soon! Until then, best wishes, and hope you’re having a nice Monday so far!
